Buying guide: Motorola Moto G85 5G parts
Released in summer 2024, the Moto G85 5G (XT2427) has flagship looks rarely seen at its price: a 6.67-inch 120 Hz curved pOLED screen, Snapdragon 6s Gen 3, stabilised 50 MP Sony camera, 32 MP selfie camera, 5000 mAh battery and 30 W charging. As a recent model, its typical faults come from everyday wear: battery, charging port, buttons and camera glass.
Check the model
Under Settings → About phone → Model you should see XT2427. Don’t confuse it with the G84 or G75, which use different parts.
QE50 battery
QE50 5000 mAh battery for the XT2427-3. 30 W fast charging is handy but wears the battery over time. If battery life has dropped noticeably, a new one gives the G85 its full day back.
Charging
1 Another cable and charger; gently clean the USB-C port 2 G85 charging board with USB-C connector Only charges with the cable at an angle, fast charging won’t kick in, or your computer won’t recognise it: the charging board is usually the fix.
Buttons
On the G85 the fingerprint reader is under the screen, not in the button. If power or volume stop responding, stick, or click with no effect, replace the power and volume flex.
Camera lens
The camera bump sticks out and is the first thing to hit the table. If the camera lens is cracked, replace it soon: it’s cheap and keeps dust and scratches off the Sony optics.
SIM tray
SIM tray in black, blue or green, matching the phone’s colours.
